A faulty panel or string can cost a solar installation output for months before anyone notices. Walking an array with a handheld camera is slow. A thermal drone scans the whole array in one visit and shows which panels are running hot.

We fly in the right conditions for thermography, with strong, steady sunlight, and reference every fault to its string and panel, so your maintenance team or O&M contractor can go straight to it.

What’s included

Solar farms

Ground-mounted arrays scanned row by row, with faults mapped across the site.

Commercial rooftop arrays

Warehouse, factory and office roofs, with no need for roof access.

Hot spots and cell faults

Cracked cells, failed bypass diodes and hot spots that cut output.

String and connection faults

Whole strings or panels offline, and overheating connectors.

Soiling and shading

Dirt, vegetation and shading that reduce output, recorded in visual imagery.

What you receive

  • Paired thermal and visual image of each fault
  • Fault list referenced to string and panel
  • Site map showing where each fault is
  • Severity rating and suggested action for each fault
Price guide From £800 excluding VAT

Prices exclude VAT. Every job is quoted in writing before we fly, based on the site, the access and what you need delivered.

Solar PV Inspection: common questions

When do you fly solar inspections?

Thermography needs strong, steady sunlight so the panels are working hard and faults show clearly. We plan around the forecast and the time of day, and rebook if the conditions are not right.

Do you need the array shut down?

No. The array needs to be generating for faults to show up, so it stays live and the drone stays clear of it.

Can you repeat the scan each year?

Yes. Annual scans show whether faults are spreading and whether repairs worked. Repeat scans can be part of an Updraft Monitor agreement.

Need solar pv inspection?

Send us the address and what you need to know. We’ll plan the flight, check the airspace and send you a clear, fixed quote.
